Die Anugita istein Auszug aus dem Buch 14 (Ashvamedhika Parva) des Mahabharata.
Das Original wurde wahrscheinlich zwischen 400 v. Chr. Und 200 v. Chr. verfasst und später im 15. Jahrhundert verändert.
Sie wird als Anhang zur Bhagavad Gita betrachtet, die in Buch 6 des Mahabharata zu finden ist. Die Anugita ist eine der Abhandlungen über Dharma (Ethik, moralische Grundsätze).
Sie ist teilweise eine Nacherzählung einiger ethischer Themen der Bhagavad Gita durch Legenden und Fabeln anstelle der destillierten Philosophie der Bhagavad Gita.
