Das Samantapasadika ist Übersetzung singhalesischer Kommentare zum Tipitaka Vinaya von Buddhaghosa. Viele der in Samantapāsādikā verwendeten Verse stammen vom älteren Dípavamsa.

Das Wort Samantapasadika besteht aus Samanta und Pasadika. Hier gibt 'samanta' vier Richtungen an und 'pasadika' bedeutet Abkühlung.
