Karnatische Musik
Die Karnatische Musik (Karnāṭaka saṃgīta, Karnāṭaka saṅgītam) stammt aus Südindien. Sie hatte sich aus alten Hindu-Traditionen heraus entwickelt und verwendet Arrangements, denen viele melodiöse und rhythmische Variationen zugrunde liegen. Sie wird für gewöhnlich gesanglich vorgetragen unter Vermittlung von Melodie, Melismatik, Rhythmus und Ausdruck. Ein bekannter moderner Komponist war Viswanatha Sastri (1893-1958).
